Obesity, including morbid obesity, is associated with a high risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) - a leading cause of hospital morbidity and mortality1. It is an independent risk factor for sudden, postoperative fatal PE2.
Intermittent Pneumatic Compression
Active Compression, also known as Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) prevents venous stasis by simulating the natural action of the calf muscle pump that would operate during normal ambulation.
For IPC to be effective, the garment needs to fit the limb correctly, whilst allowing flexibility for variation in leg sizes. Flowtron® DVT60L, is sized specifically for the needs of plus size patients. Shaped to fit calf size up to 81 cm (32 in) circumference, it mimics the body’s natural method of moving blood through the deep veins.
